Réseau des Femmes attended Umugoroba w’Umuryango Forum in Nyarugenge District

On Sunday 22th January, Reseau des Femmes in partnership with UN Women through the project ‘Empower & Include’ attended Umugoroba w’Umuryango Forum in Nyarugenge district, Mageragere sector, Kavumu cell, in the City of Kigali.

It is in line with the Organisation’s main objective of doing awareness on gender based Violence (GBV) at the community level, including explaining all forms of GBVs and laws and politics related to GBV.

During the dialogue, participants shared different experiences about the achievements, challenges and the way forward to fighting gender based violence.

Among the challenges, participants mentioned ‘CECEKA’, the attitude of silence about reporting GBV that happen into their homes, where the victims of GBV do not denounce the perpetrator. The violence includes physical, sexual, mental or economic.

Regarding this attitude, the community facilitator from Réseau des Femmes encouraged the residents to break the silence, as a way of eliminating all forms of GBVs. She also informed them on where to report this violence.

The residents ensure their efforts in eradicating ‘CECEKA’ attitude. Ndagijimana Ernest said, “It has been helpful because we are together with our wives. Our take home is to fight any form of GBV and get rid of this bad attitude of CECEKA.”

Réseau des Femmes and their partners are interested in continuing to support Umugoroba w’Umuryango Forum, as a safe space to allow men, women and children to gain access to critical information about their rights in order to build a peaceful and prosperous Family.
